With the winter meetings now complete, here is a list of notable moves:
The Red Sox are doing their best to keep up with the Jones’. Unfortunately they may have overpaid at 39M over 3 years. Victorino has never once cracked the .300 plateau in his 9 year career. His OBP also leaves something to be desired.
Dan Haren – Nationals
Bought out by the Angels and signed by the Rangers for 13M, Haren may bolster an already impressive rotation. When healthy, Haren is roughly a .500 pitcher and can eat up innings.
Joakim Soria – Rangers
Getting Soria for 2 years at 4M/year is a bit of a gamble after coming off of reconstructive elbow surgery. The Rangers have reliever gaps to fill and are willing to see if Soria can come back strong this spring.
Mike Napoli – Red Sox
Primarily playing 1B, Napoli should be able to put up some decent power numbers in Fenway. At 13M/year Napoli becomes the third highest paid catcher after Joe Mauer and Brian McCann.
Joe Blanton – Angels
Capable of going 200 innings in a season, not a bad fifth starter.
Ben Revere – Phillies
A necessary trade for the Twins. Minnesota needed pitching and got Vance Worley and Trevor May. The Phillies got a CF and a leadoff hitter.
Reed Johnson – Braves
1 year deal for the great bench player and hustle man.
